Glass Surfaces Future

Several years ago I had participated to an international competition at the Japan Design Foundation at Osaka. The focus of that competition was on to create an environment urban design that would helped users to living a better experience with the city.

One of the solutions explored from the designers that had participated at the contest was the glass screen technology. Also my project idea used some of that technology.

Today that high-tech dream is very near to everyone. A society called Corning explain in this video some awesome features of this new high-tech surface.

The glass technology is powered with a revolutionary display glass feat. transistors plus some liquid crystal display advanced techniques.

Corning is one of the leader of this technology and it developed many different devices surfaces that work very good together in many ambient: automotive, home design, office, etc.

It’s a new techno wave for designers?
I don’t know but i think that we’ll see some big news coming soon, like Bruno Munari told in some of his many conferences: a designer must should know many technical material properties for create a cultural background to himself. The knowledge of that background must help the designer to create a variety of cool things.

The glass screen technologies are only one of our possibilities to explore the new infinite and unknown way of products. It isn’t cool, a fluid glass display that work closely with all the devices?
How many possibilities we have in our hands for the future?
